PTO: Parent Teacher Organization

What is the PTO?

Our key mission is to promote an environment at school where teachers and administrators can do their best work and our students can do their best learning. We’re always eager to find more great people to help us meet this goal.

How do I become a member?

All parents or guardians of children attending Sam Houston, as well as each member of the professional staff, are members of the Parent Teacher Organization and are encouraged to participate in its activities. There is no fee for membership.

What does it mean to be a member?

You can be a member in name only or you can become an ACTIVE member. The ACTIVE members of the committee consist of both parents and teachers who volunteer their time to enhance the educational experience of every child in our school. We invite you to become an active participant in your child’s education.

Why should I be an ACTIVE member?

Participation through volunteering allows you to be "hands on" with your child’s education. Our children love to see us in this environment where they spend seven hours a day. You get to know your children’s teachers and your children’s friends.

What volunteer opportunities are available?

A Parent Volunteer form is sent home at the beginning of each school year. At anytime you can also email the PTO and request information about upcoming volunteer opportunities. This does not include volunteering in your child’s classroom- each teacher
may distribute a separate form requesting volunteers for activities within that classroom.

Thank you so much for your support!
