Welcome to Sam Houston Elementary! My name is Molly Rice, and it is my privilege to serve as principal of the best school that we know. At SHE, we believe deeply in knowing the story of every student we serve. Each child who walks through our doors brings unique gifts, experiences, and potential—and it is our mission to make sure they feel seen, supported, and celebrated every single day. 

You will find a dedicated team of educators at Sam Houston Elementary who are passionate about helping students love school. When children feel connected, safe, and valued, they are empowered to grow both academically and personally. Our staff works diligently to build meaningful relationships with our students and families, serving as partners and resources throughout your child's educational journey. 

In these foundational years, we take seriously the opportunity to spark a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. A major focus of our work is ensuring every child leaves Sam Houston Elementary as a confident, capable reader—fully prepared for the next steps in their education. 

Just as important as academics is the development of strong character. Through our signature character education program—The Smokie Way—students learn to act with integrity, persevere through challenges, and treat others with kindness and respect. These values are woven into the heart of our campus culture. 

A treasured line from our school song reminds us of the purpose behind our work: “We are preparing little Smokies for the world that they must face.” We know the world can be a hard and complicated place, but here at Sam Houston Elementary, we take pride in being a safe, nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and build the confidence they need to thrive.
